Fairfax Coalition of Police, Fairfax Deputy Sheriff’s Coalition and International Union of Police Associations Endorse Gerry Connolly for Congress

Fairfax, VA — The Fairfax Coalition of Police, the Fairfax Deputy Sheriff’s Coalition and the International Union of Police Associations (IUPA) announced today that they have endorsed Fairfax County Chairman Gerry Connolly for Congress in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.

“Gerry Connolly has demonstrated his leadership in matters of public safety concern time after time,” said Marshall Thielen, President of the Fairfax Coalition of Police.

Dennis Slocumb, International Vice President of IUPA, said, “Gerry Connolly’s demonstrated leadership, judgment and integrity while serving as the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will serve the residents of Fairfax County well when he takes his seat in Congress.”

“It’s a great honor to have the support of our community’s Police Officers and Deputy Sheriffs,” said Connolly.  “I’m looking forward to continuing our work together to keep our region safe.”

The Fairfax Coalition of Police is affiliated with IUPA and is the largest police union in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with over 900 members.  IUPA is the only AFL-CIO union chartered exclusively for law enforcement and support personnel.

Governor Kaine Endorses Gerry

May 21, 2008

Great news!  Governor Kaine has endorsed Gerry.  You can read about it in today’s Washington Post.  I’ve also included the Governor’s full statement below.

Today I am pleased to announce my enthusiastic support for and endorsement of Fairfax County Chairman, Gerald E. Connolly as the next Congressman from the 11th Congressional District of Virginia.

Gerry has been my partner in securing rail to Dulles; developing new transportation investment for Northern Virginia; extending child care to hundreds of working moms in Fairfax; garnering full funding of the Standards of Quality for education, all-day kindergarten, and early childhood learning; implementing gang prevention; creating a comprehensive environmental initiative; building a strong vibrant economy; managing a county that has been selected as the best managed county in the best managed state; and so much more.

He is recognized as the regional leader not only of Northern Virginia, but of the National Capital Region as well.  He has served as the chairman of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the president of the Virginia Association of Counties, chair of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Northern Virginia Regional Commission, and currently serves as the chair of the critical Emergency Preparedness Council for the nation’s capital.  His ability to reach out and work with others – of both parties and across the National Capital Region and the Commonwealth – is legendary.

Gerry brings passion and integrity to public service and a deep sense of commitment to all he undertakes.

I believe that this race has attracted four worthy and capable candidates, but for me, Gerry Connolly is the standout.  He will serve the 11th Congressional District with honor and distinction.  I fully endorse and will actively work for his election, and I encourage voters in the 11th Congressional District to do the same.
